It was easy for me to become a landscape painter because of my love for being outdoors. After a vacation to visit a friend in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, I fell in love with western landscapes and after that first trip, all of my vacations were spent in the West. But I truly believe that in order to be a serious landscape painter, artists have to paint en plein air. One of the main reasons I wanted to move to Colorado was to be able to study and paint on site. I have plein air painted for about 10 years and apply what I have learned in my studio artwork.
In 2022, Joan published a book of her paintings titled Painting Colorado: A Watercolor Journal. For more information about the book and to view sample pages, go to Publications.
